We are a small, one-product, family-owned business.

Pomona’s Universal Pectin got its start in 1980 on Pragtree Farm in Arlington, Washington. Farmers Brian Saunders and Connie Sumberg had an abundance of organic fruit. Brian wanted to make jam, but was horrified at the amount of sugar required.

Some sleuthing and experimenting led to the pectin known today as Pomona’s Universal Pectin. In 1989, Connie took over the business, running it independently until 2009, when sister Mary Lou and Mary Lou’s husband Paul joined her.

In 2017, Connie, Mary Lou and Paul retired, and Casey and Sara Wolters took the helm in continuing to bring you the only unsweetened and preservative-free pectin available on store shelves. Casey and Sara have over 10 years of experience working in the pectin industry and are proud to continue the growth of Pomona’s Universal Pectin.
