How long will calcium water keep?

Stored in the refrigerator, calcium water will last many months. It can be frozen for even longer storage. When you take your jar out of the refrigerator, look at it before shaking it. You should see white powder settled at the bottom and floating near the bottom of the jar, with clear water above that. If you see any colors or mold in the jar, discard the calcium water. Always shake well before using.

I have many leftover calcium packets and wonder what could be another use for them. As more pectin is needed in recipes than calcium water, what do you suggest?

Since it is a rock mineral source of calcium, if you end up with way too much, you could sprinkle it on your garden or add it to your compost.

I have had the calcium water in the fridge for one year – last year’s elderberry crop! It is clear, no bits or smell or color. Is it okay to use?

I went on Google specifically looking for an answer to this question. Thank you so much. I am in the middle of canning and got that answer very quickly, so helpful!

How much water is added to the calcium powder?

1/2 teaspoon calcium powder is will be mixed with 1/2 cup water.

The calcium water can be stored in the fridge for several months (will just need to be tossed if it has any floating bits or smell or color). It can also be stored in the freezer and will keep indefinitely, and will just need to be thawed before use. We also highly recommend labeling your jar of calcium water, as it seems to be the first item tossed when cleaning the fridge/freezer 😉.
