For those of us who didn’t win, I'm sharing my all-time favorite blueberry jam recipe, created by Renée Joslyn of Freakin’ Flamingo jams in So. Miami, Florida. She calls it Blue Sunshine Jam.

If you have some ripe, fresh blueberries, or some frozen blueberries tucked away in your freezer, you have to try it. All I can say is yum, yum, yum!

Also, if you like Giveaways, you can enter the Preserve the Harvest Giveaway, sponsored by Countryside & Small Stock Journal. Enter each Wednesday to win a box of Pomona's Pectin. Wednesday, Sept. 9, starts the final Grand Prize week, which includes a copy of Preserving with Pomona's Pectin, a box of pectin, and an In-Home Freeze Dryer worth $4300, among other things.

And now for a little bit more about our winners.

Gary says:

That's cool. Thanks. I have used Pomona's Pectin before -- and I enjoy the ease of use, reliability of outcome and the ability to be flexible to vary the texture of the preserves. Glad that the product exists. I like that you can utilize honey as the sweetener and you can vary the amount of sweetener (honey/sugar) to taste and still get great results.

I have not used Fillmore Container previously, and to be honest wasn't aware of them, but will take a look at their website.

I'm a long-time jam maker, an offshoot of helping out with canning/preserving as a child.

My favorite jam to make - Sour Cherry Bourbon. (Note from Mary Lou: I'm trying to get the recipe from him.)

Jam I'm going to make when I get the pectin?  Peach.

Joann says:

Oh my goodness!!! I can't believe I won!!!! I am sooooo excited!

I have just used Pomona's Pectin for the first time last week on the Maple-Vanilla Peach small batch jam. I love it! When my children were little I would can enough to last a year, now that they have their own families and they both can as well, I have really gotten into the small batch idea.

I started canning as a teenager with my Mom, then with my daughters. I only used Sure Jell up till now. I love that I can control the amount of sugar and the size of the batch with Pomona's Pectin. It's all I'll use from now on!

I have ordered jars and lids from Fillmore Container, the price is great!

I think my next batch of jam will be a Pear-Vanilla Jam.

You guys are the best! Thank you for this opportunity to win!

  1. Congratulations to the winners. Joann’s children are so fortunate that she canned and now has passed on that skill to them. It is up to all of us to raise awareness and share the benefits of canning with as many people as we can.
